CadoMotus at US Indoor Nationals
Coach Kelly Springer has had the pleasure of watching his CadoMotus USA skaters heat up the track at the US Indoor Nationals these past few days.
Said Kelly,
"The team is flying, William Bowen won the 100-meter sprint final and broke Joey (Mantia)'s record.
William also won the 500 meter, but another one of my skaters, Justin Stelly broke that record in the heat."
Stelly has also broken Mantia's 1500 meter indoor record to win that event. In the 5000 meter final, the 5 Luigino skaters worked every tactical angle to get Michael Cheek clear for a lap-up on the field that included the favored Bowen and Stelly. With Cheek taking a 1-lap win in the 5k, that was the only race Springer's athletes would lose thus far - in an event that was overshadowed by the crowd's booing rather than cheering the final result (Linda Wood posted her video of the race).
Katelyn Horning, CadoMotus USA, was on podium twice with Sara Sayasane and Emily Scott in Pro Ladies, and finished with 5th overall.
Springer's 4-man relay team took second last night to a team headed by Team USA return Harry Vogel, with Chris Springer holding Vogel down with retaliative passes on every move Harry made.
CadoMotus' Kimani Griffin was perhaps the fastest skater on the indoor this week, but was defending his 2007 Junior Overall title and so would not skate the Pro Men individual events. Griffin set a sensational 500 meter indoor Junior record of 43.96 seconds (averaging 8.7s/lap over 5 laps from a standing start, for a record that will take something special to beat). Springer twins Chris and James made all the Junior finals with Griffin, who was to star in the division, winning all 3 races.
