Arjan Smit and Brooke Lochland win Twello

The 13th and second last race for the World on Wheels series in the Netherlands was held in Twello on Saturday. Rain and difficult circumstances and two wins on CadoMotus HiLo frames and MPC wheels

It was the first victory of the 31 year old Arjan Smit, silver medallist at the 2002 World Championships in Belgium and multiple Dutch champion. It was his 99th victory in the Netherlands over the last 1,5 decade.

"It is getting much harder to win every year" says Smit after the victory. "Since 1995 I have won a race every year. It is a good feeling that I can still manage to dictate races."

Since this season, Smit wears CadoMotus HiLo frames and uses MPC Road War wheels for dry conditions and MPC Storm Surge for the wet.

"The HiLo frame has been a big relief for me. I have struggled to find the right 110mm setup. Shane Dobbin tipped me on the CadoMotus HiLo and finally I feel I'm in control again."

Maarten Swings placed third and was part of the three men breakaway that escaped early in the race. Erwin Mesu placed second. Ferre Spruyt, who completed the CadoMotus team for this occasion, finished in the pack.

The ladies race, which was raced under extremely wet conditions, was won by Brooke Lochland, who added another victory to her impressive palmares of the 2009 season. Together with the Belgium Britta Vantourhout she escaped from the peloton. Bianca Roosenboom won the sprint of the pack for place 4th; Sara Bak got third, 'swimming' in between the two leaders and the main group.
